I posted this question over on hot hemi heads site but I thought I'd through it out to you too. I figure you guys going with the really big cubes would sonic test for core shift. I have a 354 Marine Hemi. I've been told to sonic check it for salt damage if the motor used salt water cooling. No one remembers if it had inter coolers or not. My machinist said it's a waist of money because they only sonic check the bore in 2 or 3 places, top, middle, and bottom. If there was a small spot eaten out by salt the test probably won't catch it. He said punch it out 30 and if it's good go with it. If it breaks through sleeve it. How do you know if your 30 over bore job didn't leave a paper thin spot some where that will give out later? What are your thoughts? Joe.

I think Monday I'll call the shop that actually does the test, that would have helped in the first place, silly me. Someone told me it would be prohibitively expensive to do a comprehnsive test of each cylinder. Maybe they are wrong, thanks I'll keep you posted, Joe.
