69 Dart rear window rubber
« on: June 21, 2008, 10:53:24 PM »

Hi all,
I was looking for a new rear window rubber(gasket) for my 69 Dart and found this one at YearOne.

WCRDB3861
Rear window gasket for 1968-1976 Mopar A-body models with roll down rear windows and with vinyl top.

$103.00

Now I don't have a vinyl top and was wondering if this one is correct? Has anyone used this part? Can someone suggest another from other suppliers?
I have a new back glass and paid $500 for it, I think it would be best to us a new rubber rather than the 39 year old one.

Thanks!

Great!  Thanks for checking, I appreciate your effort to look-up the P/N.

I just went to the local Auto Glass shop and they told me they could get one from the US. It was $400 plus $100 shipping. The glass is even tinted. I am in Ontario, CA. I think it was sourced through PPG.

I have a 68 Dart 270 sedan ex-vintyl top car and I ran across the same price for the rear glass ($400) when I was shopping for mine and decided it was better to reuse the original one and just get a new front. Spent a little time cleaning it up and had it reinstalled with a new gasket. I am unaware of any deference in the gaskets vinyl vs non- vinyl top. I know the vinyl tops are stapled on in the corners at the top of teh rear glass so this adds a bit of fun to them leaking. They also have  the vinyl top material wrapping around the glass frame helping to create a gap for the seal to leak at. Even after fixing the holes and removing the vinyl top the fool thing stiil leaks. Even the new windshield and new gasket leaks up front too. *mumble* So make sure your glass guy uses the sealant stuff. I haven't been able to install the package tray or carpet, and won't, until I know the leak(s) are gone. I was told the gaskets need,"... a week to swell up and seal..." but I think the guy is full of Twinkies. It's been a month so I think the swelling, if it was going to take place, should have. I've just been a bit slow in rechecking his work; new baby and all.

Do use a sealant, but not urathane as it will harden up like a rock. Use a non hardening buytl caulk like CR Laurence #7708, It is called body and glass sealant and it does not get hard.
Waiting for the rubber to swell, I don't think so...
I am also using this sealant to attach and seal the plastic sheet under the door panel and rear side panels as well.

thats a lot of cash for a rear glass, but at least it is available. the body guy was looking at my dart the other day and said man, i hope you have the glass, it looks expensive to replace.
