small block flywheel on slant?
« on: June 22, 2008, 02:49:54 AM »

Hey guys. I'm looking at my drivetrain setup and thinking that seeing as I'm having to use a small block bellhousing(sfi approved with engine guard plate) so I'm thinking why not go with a small block flywheel as well 130 tooth gear flywheel with a 10.5" clutch disc(stock slant fly is a 122 tooth gear and about a 9 1/8" disc) Anyone know if this would clear most importantly. It would make getting clutches way easier because going with a 10.5 inch disc would allow me to use stock flywheels instead of having to get a custom one each time I need a new one.

If I understand you correctly you wish to use the 130 tooth small block flywheel and clutch assembly on the slant in place of the 122 tooth flywheel and smaller diameter pressure plate and disc assembly. Is that correct?

I'm not a slant expert, but my guess would be it wouldn't work. Even if the flywheel fits inside the bellhousing, the starter wouldn't line up. Unless you use a slant bellhousing that originally used a 130 tooth flywheel like maybe out of a truck.

the bellhousing I'm using is from Quicktime and would allow the starter to be mounted in the correct location.
