i just bought a 1970 dart swinger and i started stripping off the undercoat. and i noticed the metal all looks good underneath. im planning on putting some kind of rust coating such as eastwoods rust encapsulator. then maybe undercoat it again. but my problem is when i look into the frame rails through any factory holes with a flashlight all i see is rust. i have no idea what i should do about the inner frame rails. and was wondering what you guys do or would suggest to fix this problem. its mainly surface rust but id like as much gone as posible?

as far as i know the only real way to get into nook and crannies like that is to have the care acid dipped. however not everyone can do this, but not to worry. the frame rails are made of a thick gage metal so surface rust wont be much of a problem. my dad and friends always tell me " that car will out last you". if it bothers you that much though and you have the means to do it... take the rails off (mark their location first) then send them out to have them dipped to rid them of the rust and treated so it cants come back.
just my two cents. hope it was helpful.

In the rear, I had my trunk floor out, so I hit it with rust encapsulator and chassis black. On my doors, I dumped about a quart of the stuff in the door and put a can under the drain holes to catch what runs out.

I'm going to try a big piece of flex shaft (like they use for drain snakes) and chuck into a high powered drill, then weld a wire brush to it and run that down the inside of the frame rails and blow it out with compressed air. Should be clean enough to get the rust encapsulator in there.

when you get your car sandblasted do the rails come out cleaner. i suppose there would still be spots in there that you cant get to?
