trans. service
« on: June 23, 2008, 04:51:04 PM »

not on your hotrods, but your newer ones. may your tow veh.  do you like the old way- pull off the pan and change the filter, or do a flush through the cooler lines? most people now just back-flush the lines and refill .i am not sure but i think changing the filter would still be the way to go. i think that some shops are just doing the easy way out. big bucks for a flush machine. what do you think? while on transmissons, what is the best trans. oil cooler? (tow veh.) thanks......

When you just drop the pan you leave ALOT of fluid unchanged in the trans.  A flush will get all the old fluid exchanged.  I reccommend dropping the pan , changing the filter and then flushing the trans.   No chance of any old fluid being left inside the trans.

If there is nothing wrong with the trans then just drop the pan, adjust the bands, change the filter and refill ... fluid is FILTERED and should not be bad unles there are tranny problems, if there are problems a fluid change will not get you far ...

The power flushing could create problems.....best bet for rountine service is drop pan and replace filter making band adjustments too. The business that sell "Power Flushing"  are not transmission repair shops...they are the quick lube shops that don't know anything about transmissions. They just want your throw money
