wheel choices w/ B-body 8.75....
« on: June 23, 2008, 10:39:19 PM »

For those who are running a B-body 8 3/4 rear in an A-body, I'm curious what wheels you are running. I know I could measure for backspacing, and was told here that I'd need 4"BS for a non-offset leaf spring setup. But I'm curious what factory wheels (I could find at the local wrecking yard) would fit?

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jay

If you want to max out your available space, getting the right backspace for the rear will be tough. If not, most factory rims will be somewhat near zero offset and should at least fit fairly well. Just look for the most bs you can get. 4" bs is minimally what you need, more is better.

Right now I'm running 15x7 police wheels. If my car was lower they would rub at the fender lip.  I haven't found any factory wheels yet that fit both the front and rear properly. Mustang wheels fit the rear nice, but the fronts usually require spacers and the hub grease cover sticks out so you can't use the center caps, and you'll need to replace the studs with longer ones. Wheel vintiques makes many stock type wheels, some have custom offset ordering possibilities.

I have, on the rear of my 73 Dart Swinger, 8 inch wide, original plain jane stock steel with the four nubs center for the dog dish caps, BUT, they are custom offset back space of 5 and 1/2" made by Stockton wheel and rim at a way more than I should have paid price. I use stock factory 7 inch wide on the front with the same tires on all four corners, 245/60 r15's. I also mounted a set of tires, for drag racing, on a set of 90's aluminum jeep rims for the back (originally intended to use them all the way around, but found that they just would not work on the front, ball joint interferance due to deep off-set, they JUST rubbed a bit on the uppers, never wasted the time to try to make them work, although I believe with some thought and effort it could be done). They worked very well on the rear though, so I would say you could search around a salvage yard for jeep wheels and try that, or just let your fingers due the walking and call around to all the places local to you and see if you cant find someone who will alter the back spacing on a set of whatever stock wheels you wanted, or search the huge variety of aluminums out there for a set with the off set that works best in YOUR situation. Really depends on your car as to what will fit. Sometimes a very $$$ trial and error deal.

Here is a rear shot to let you see how it looks.

OK. Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to hit the yards up here and see what I can find.

Not looking to spend a lot on this, but I do like your Dart krabysniper - looks mean.

thank you
