I haven't intsalled the 383 in my 74 Duster yet but I am prepping the car for paint and want to cut a hole in the hood for air cleaner clearance (will be under a scoop). Can anyone tell me the distance from the back edge and side(s) to the center of the carb? Motor will be in "stock" location and I'm running a Wiend single plane intake with 2" spacer. Thanks in advance

For what it's worth. Really need to have motor installed first, paint hood last, at least thats what I'm doing.

The way I've done it a couple of times requires the engine in the car. Put an air cleaner stud in the carb longer than the stock one and sharpen the end so it just pierces the hood. Slam the hood on it, then take a string as long as the radius of the air filter and draw a circle. There's your hole. Is your K frame in your car? Put the bare block in it, heads, intake and carb... I know it's a lot of work, but at'll be in the right spot.

I hear what you guys are sayin' but I'd prefer to paint it all at once and I'd rather be lazy about the method. I don't see where there would be much if any difference in a 67-76 a-body carb position on a big block relative to the firewall and inner fender edges. I'm willing to chance it if someone could give me some hood measurements.

I know it's the weekend and all but could someone please take a measurement for me? It doesn't matter if you have a scoop or not, just measure from where the hood meets the cowl to the air cleaner stud and from the fender edges (hood seam) to stud. I'd really appreciate it... Please and

My Dart's are in Arkansas and I am in Illinois.
BUT, my Wife is in Arkansas at our new home where the Dart's are.
I called and talked with her just now and explained what measurements you need.
She is going to go out to the shop and measure things and call me back.
I will post the measurement as soon as I get them.

Here are the measurements from my Red Dart.
It is a 512 (440 block) with an MSD 1000cfm EFI throtlle body (same flange layout and center as a holley carb.
From the rear to the center of the air cleaner stud is 13 3/16"
From the Passenger side fender to the center of the air cleaner stud is 27 7/8"
From the Driver side fender to the center of the air cleaner stud is 30 15/16"
I hope this will help.

...by the way that's a fine collection of '67s you've got there. A stoker big-block GT 'vert has to the ultimate a-body.

No problem. We are glad tp help. I hope the info helps. Here are a few photos of my engine and my "HomeBrewed" EFI system. By the way, the white Dart belongs to a good friend. we built it in my shop in the background. The blue Dart is a 270 model with a 235hp 273 Comando engine, 4 speed, 3.91 8 3/4" Sure Grip that I ordered and bought New. Good Luck on your project, Herb

Very nicely done...I'm still trying to clean the drool off my keyboard.
My first Mopar (20 years ago) was a '67 Dart GT with a 273/4 speed. Still have a huge soft spot for those cars.
