thats not for low compression it won't run till you hit over 3300 rpms,,3500stall or 4 speed and higher than 10 to1.

what would you suggest for idle to 5500, using shuemaker headers and rpm intake, 800 eddelb, 3.55 gear ,2800stahl, likely to stay low compression.

It may not be ideal for your situation but I would never say it wont run until 3000+ RPM. I am using a slightly bigger cam (245@.050" I/E) with compression under 9, 3.55 gears and 3000 stall converter in a Dart, I am driving on the street. No regrets, sounds nice, goes nice.

I think you need to stay with something like 280*,but a cam in 300*/308* will kill torque that you need.9to1 will like 278*or 282* the 284* likes closer to 10to1 the 292*cam likes at least 10.5. I talked to Dick Landy about 3 years before he pass about a cam I had it was 306*/306* 235*@.050" with 472"lift and 1.5r rockers the cam was for a 4speed.Dick said,"11to1 compression is needed if not 11.5 compression,it was a slow dog when I put a Auto.transmisson&a2800stall with 10to1compression, Dick set me strate with his 282*/294* 480"/.504" made all the differentance.CraneCams grind but it was DLI cam,I tryed to get it from Crane but they said I had to get it from DLI over $280

Boy that Valiant sounds good. The RPM cam needs an adjustable valvetrain though, correct?

i got a 383 with rpm cam, intake, and heads, the compression ratio is pretty low in mine (8.5-9.0) and i am having a low vacuum problem. i am pretty sure it is due to the low compression ratio. at least that is what edelbrock told me. i would not use this cam unless you have at least 9.5 just as edelbrock recommends.

They sound good really good wth under 9.5 compression but it needs 278*or 284*for the high to make it zippy. or go head and see for your self I did. but I was thumping.

It will work fine with a non adjustable valvetrain.
