Oil fluctuation promblems?

Quick question. I've had this problem before with the original 318 in my ramcharger, now a 318 from my dad's old 76 roadrunner, it's completely stock, other then a high pressure oil pump. temperatures hit about 30 degrees celcius today and the oil pressure dropped completely at idle, I mean like 3-5 compared to how it is normally sitting at about 20-25, driving at 50 kmh the pressure was hitting about 20-24 normally it's about 40-50. This was after driving about a half hour 45 minutes, I waiting about 4 to 5 hours and cranked it over and warmed it up and it hit the normal pressures that it hits when warming ~40-45 psi at idle, ~50-60 when I have the quick idle on. wtf is going on? I have no idea what is wrong. I'm hoping to start my 360 LA/Magnum build soon so I'm not overly worried if this motor is on it's way out.

sorry should have mentioned it's a mechanical guage. Or do you mean some actual tool?

What filter are you using? People were having problems losing oil pressure with fram filters. Try a wix filter. You can buy them at NAPA it is their gold series P# 1515 I think.

Could be the oil was too thin, you wiped a bearing, you stuck a pressure relief valve, or the filter screwed up. I have found the new K&N's work really well and are well made. I just stuck one on my Ram (extras from the boat and the duster), the big one fit the ram though it wasn't supposed to. I found my oil pressure went up 10-15 PSI just from that....

It's my fault ether way. I use frams on the ramcharger all the time, and I really have been stretching the oil change intervals. I should have done one this past weekend as it is overdue even if I did it this past weekend. But right now I'm not sure if I want to change it if the motor is pooched, it would be kind of a waste of good oil to me.

Dude... NEVER use a Fram filter on anything that you like...
17 years in the diesel business and all I ever used was Wix or Baldwin.  I was using Frams on my wife's Saturn because they were the easiest to come by and I figured it was only a paper element. How bad could it be? Well, last summer, the car developed a rod knock. I opened up the filter housing to check for bearing fragments and guess what? The filter element came out in two pieces.   I contacted Fram and asked them to send a container so I could send them the filter and have them analyze it. Know what they sent? NOTHING.  F them and their guarantee.  I now order Baldwin filters for my wife's car from the local truck shop.
 Want to be shocked? Open up a Fram filter and a Wix and do your own side by side comparison.  Fram's like an accident waiting to happen.
