Cheapest way to ship body panels??
« on: July 01, 2008, 02:42:42 AM »

Hello and thanks for letting me join this site I have a 74 Dart Sport two door coupe and I need a drivers side quarter panel skin. I am looking at buying a goodmark unit but I dont want to pay more in shipping than it costs for the panel. Does anyone know of a place that ships them for cheap or a place in washington state or oregon that sells them?? Thanks for your help I have already learned alot from this forum.

I just got inner fenderwells for my 1950 plymouth wagon from a guy in North Dakota. I live in Pennsylvania, he told me shipping UPS would be $130, so I told him to ship them by Greyhound bus, cost $25. Yes,I said bus..........some Greyhound bus terminals do have package and large parts shipping. I had a hood shipped from the same guy back in the fall, UPS was $300.....bus was $35. You do have to find a terminal that handles this type of shipping but the savings are great.

check with some local body shops that work on older stuff. There is probably a supplier close buy that can get them for you, it is just knowing who it get them from

I have also heard people using Greyhound to ship goods. They are traveling cross county every day and want to make as much money as they can. Those empty luggage bays turn into profit center when you hire them to carry your stuff. You have to go to a station to drop off and someone has to pick up at terminal, which can be some distance if you are not by a large city.

use caution when ordering through greyhound. their cheap, but theres a reason for that.... they don't take nearly as good care as the expensive carriers and no offense to anyone who may be working for greyhound, but the people (or at least in my area) aren't too aptly equipped with brains. so your things could get lost (which hasn't happened to me, but almost did) or your brand new good mark sheet metal may end up bit beat up, so make sure its packaged well! because the greyhound employees don't give a rats patuty lol. one time they even forgot to take my package off of the bus and it ended up going to LA... not to mention i had to call each greyhound station it might be going to, to track its whereabouts and let them know it needs to come back this way  i did their job for them...  Madd Frustrated

just my two cents about greyhound... they do save you allot on shipping however

I've used greyhound in the past for fenders. They ship on their terms so its not the quickest way to get things. It is cheaper though. As for WA and OR there's always Layson's in WA but most people here seem to really have a beef with them. I've used them before and have had good dealings. But you might want to read other peoples concerns first.

Kylecoyote I live in Vancouver, WA just across the Columbia River from Portland OR. there's a guy in Gresham Oregon who does mainly Chevy sheetmetal from goodmark and others but can add anything you need to one of his stock orders, which are big enough so he doesn't pay any freight and then you can pick them up directly from him, no freight charge It's   COLUMBIA PARTS COMPANY  at  503-663-3333 I got both my Duster quarter panels for him and it was really cheap I think he charged me $180 each, and  he's really easy to deal with.
Let me know need any other info.
Richard

Kylecoyote the guy in gresham stocks mainly chevy stuff but seams to do a high enough volume to be placing orders to replenish his stock
every couple weeks. He most likely would have to add what you need to one of these orders, so you might have to wait a few weeks to get it.
best thing to do is give him a call. or go to the goodmark web site and do a dealer search. there maybe a high volume dealer in you area that can do the same thing. Also even though I have never been to Layson which is just south of seattle. I've talked to them many times to check stock since I travel to seattle quite often. They never have anything it stock and don't seam very interested in getting my order. But if there close give them a call you might get luckey. Richard
