A500 or Gear Vendors OD
« on: July 01, 2008, 02:37:10 PM »

I am running a 540 hp small block in a 72 dart and I have a 3200 turbo action stall and a rebuilt 904 with low gear set and 3.23 ratio. I want to get an od but I would like to know the best route to go.
Should I go with the a5oo or use the gv?
I need lots of advise.

Check with http://www.smrtrans.com/
They sell both, but specialize in the 500/518s.

Gear Vendors aren't cheap, but you won't kill it.

The a500 was qouted at 1650 from a local shop. I also quoted a stall convertor from PATC for 795. The GV unit is 2695.
Dynamic convertors told me that with the motor setup I am using, that I would like the GV unit better. He stated that he could only build a convertor with 2600 stall for that tranny.

I think it also depends on what the car will used for , a street only car could get by more with a 500/518 tranny. There is a lot of guys on the diesel forums building the 518's behind mega torque cummins. Thats what I am using in mine, I bought PATC's kit which is supposed to upgrade to 700hp level and I upgraded the planetaries also. I found a 518 core for $75 and doing it myself will have around $1500 including an ultra bell for big block .  The 500/518 both have a .69 overdrive ratio which is better than the gear vendors.
Or if money wasnt a problem you could bolt on the gear vendors on the back of a 518 for double overdrive .54 ratio   Grin

Where did that come from?  It's not indexed.  How many other hidden pages are there?
