Hey guys, I'm fixing my 1969 Fury, I had a fire in April due to a fuel filter separating and spraying gas on the headers. Luckily, I got the fire out fairly quickly, but all the hoses, ignition wires, distributor, and engine wiring got burnt. I've replaced the wiring with another used 69 Fury harness from the firewall forward, and since I'm not exactly a mechanical or electrical genius, I had my brother give me a hand in doing it. My brother has since left for England for work, and though I have the car running, it only starts if you use a test light to connect the negative terminal of the battery to the brown wire leading into the starter relay. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction, and tell me what the piece below may be for, from what I remember, it was bolted onto the rear of the intake manifold -

I'm not sure if this piece is the missing element, or is the whole wiring system just not grounded right? The battery charges fine, lights and everything works.

That has nothing to do with your problem, but I'm not sure what it is.
If you are grounding the "G" terminal then the wiring to the nuetral safety switch is bad or the switch is bad.

Thanks Jim! Should I test the NSS or just replace it?
Test it. Since you had a little fire the wiring may be bad.........

Looks like it's definitely either the NSS or the wiring leading to it, the car stalled today while driving, and like a moron I turned the key while it was in gear, and it started up. I guess I'll replace the NSS and see if that solves it!

NO, that means the NSS is probaby good, but you're not getting it all the way into park. Disconnect the linkage at the trans and put the trans in park. Then try to start it and then adjust the shift linkage properly.
