Bad ignition modules on my 73 Swinger

My /6 car has a problem. Last week it wouldn't start (no spark), I narrowed it down to the ignition module. I did this by pulling the module off of my 84 Ram and I got spark off of it. Fast forward to today, went out to start it, sucker was dead as a doornail again. Checked for spark, nada. Now assuming its the module again, what could be causing this? I checked to see if there is a draw on the battery when the car is sitting but there isn't. Is there a way to check these modules on the bench?

Unfortunately there is no bench test for the modules (ECU). You could build a bench tester but it need/use the same parts as your car. You can however test all the parts around it, thereby isolating it as the problem with a simple Volt-Ohm meter (VOM). They are about $12-$13 from any auto parts store. They're not really that hi tech; pretty simple operation. That's one of the beauties of the Cryco electronic ignition systems. A common issue is the poor grounding of the ECU itself. If you don't get it to ground to bare metal... baby don't work.

those things are a pain in the neck when they start doing that, we've gone through plenty of them, although I can't remember what we used to do to fix the problems, I do remember the grounding problem.  The easiest thing I remember doing is putting an msd in it, although it costs a lot more than just some good ole troubleshooting

Hmm. Well, I'll make sure it has a good ground, since I remember the two mounting holes were corroded (I was in a hurry to get it going though). Could a bad voltage regulator burn them out faster?

Got it figured, I wire wheeled the mounting points and it fired right up. So it was just a bad ground. Thanks for the help guys.
