Shelby GT 500
« on: July 04, 2008, 07:52:45 AM »

I just came back from a ride in my Buddy`s GT 500 . (4.6 ltr. supercharged ) WOW ! For an all factory ride this thing`s really fast ! The car is also stealth quiet which is almost unnerving when you see how fast you`re moving and only hear the blower noise and some initial tire noise. The interior is also really nice in black leather and red stitching , not over done . Sure hope the new Chally can keep up with this thing . He paid around $57k for the car.

Pretty cool.

Wanna hear my cool Shelby story?  When I was a kid, one of my neighbors had an immaculate 69 Shelby GT500 with a 428 and an automatic. In like 1982, he put the car up for sale and some guy in Eagle Creek, Oregon bought it.  I got to take the trip from Long Island to Oregon in the car.   How many 15 year olds could say they crossed the entire US in a 69 GT500?   Still one of my coolest memories.  Damn, I think he sold that car for 15,000 at that time.

I had a ride in my friend's GT500 Convertible.  He said it was stock, but I have a feeling he may have tweaked the blower.  The thing screams like a banshee on boost, and it just keeps pulling.

If I was in the market for a new car, it would be the GT500.

My boss has two supercharged mustangs. I bust his balls because they need blowers to make the number.

Only 5,000 a year in gas.  No sweat.  Keep it for 10 and pay 50,000 just to be coool!!!!   I drove one in Florida and dug it.  Everyone kept saying, "Shelby".  But after 3 days, I got tired of putting the big gas in it.

I'd bet it didn't run on 87 octane.

If the GT500 sports the same motor as the 03-04 cobras, the new Challenger doesnt stand a prayer without some serious mods.  The bottom end of those 03-04 cobra motors are already set up for additional boost, manley H beams, forged pistons, etc.  A simple pulley swap and some bolts ons will be all thats needed to really turn the wick up on that thing.  I've heard both the GT500 aswell as the new Challenger weigh in at around 4,000 pounds.  Shocked  Both cars need to go on a diet.
