So I've been contemplating it for a couple months and I finally ordered my Powdercoating kit from Columbia Coatings. Bought the Chicago Electric Deluxe Kit with Beginners handbook. Comes with a bunch of awesome stuff to: Powder Coat System, Foot Switch, Power Source, Inline Filter, 1/2" Hi-Temp. Tape, 1" Hi-Temp. Tape, Hanging Wire, 25 pcs 6" .076 S- Hooks, Two 12 oz Powder Cups, 30 pc Assorted Hi-Temp. Plugs and 30 pc Assorted Hi-Temp Caps. Includes 1-2 lb or 2-1 lb bottles of Powder with your Choice of Colors on Our Standard, Translucent, Poly, Metallic and Texture Pages.
They had a third option for powders which had 4 1/2lb bottles of powder so I chose flat black, black chrome, chrome, and chrome clear. Should be nice for the parts I'll be putting through it, I'll be powdercoating some parts from the k member and the rear suspension. Gotta find a stove to bake parts in now.

I just did some powder coating this morning. I think your going to like it. I got an oven from my neighboor he was property manger and one of the units caught fire and they had to replace the kitchen. The oven works fine. I'm thinking of building a new oven thats bigger. Search google and there are some doit yourself guys who hhave built there own ovwns and other tips. The book your getting will get you started on the right track. It is easy and you will really like the parts. Your friends will probably be asking you to do some parts once they find out you can do it and see how nice it turns out. On used parts that had oil or grease it is a good idea to heat them before coating to sweat out any traces of residue.

Yeah a buddy of mine has already been bugging me for the past couple weeks about buying it and doing some stuff for his custom motorcycle parts. So I figure I'll get set up practice a bit on my own stuff and then when I'm comfortable I'll start charging for powdercoating seeing as there would be only me and another place in saskatoon doing it.(they wanted 1200 bucks to powdercoat just my front suspension already cleaned and done in just black. I told them forget it that I would do it myself.

You're going to love powdercoating. Once you have all the equipment, it's pretty cheap to do it yourself. I got my oven for free from a buddy that was remodeling. It's really easy to do, just ,make sure you get every thing down to clean bare metal. I blast everything with aluminum oxide, then hose it down with Eastwood PRE, then pre-bake at about 450 for half an hour, and it always comes out nice. The plugs and caps work good for blocking things off. The tape works well too. The fiberglass tape works better than the blue hi-temp. stuff some people sell. The blue tape starts to melt at about 415 degrees. Get some aluminum foil, and use that with the tape to mask off large areas. It works pretty well. Good luck. And please post some pics of the chrome and black chrome when you get some parts done.
