just to drive on the street, pop the hood at a cruise night and awe people? id rather build a 500 wedge low rpm torque monster, and put the left over cash into a tremec and dana. plenty of power and get halkf way decent MPG. i totally see why you would consider it, but think of the bad ass wedge you could have, ok so if you dont want the nice OD manual trans with gears to spare, you could still build your killer wedge and finish off the body and paint on your car.

Its looking loke this may not really be possible for me, you are right, I need to finish the paint first and get the car back together. Also, I have seriously been considering buying a 2009 Challenger R/T, serious enough that it might become a reality in Jan/Feb 2009. I have to wait until then so I can afford the xtra payments. But it does have a hemi, and six speed. The Dart will have to wait a few years for a Hemi.

Flyboy, There's an article in Car Craft about building a cheap hemi. I figure since it's just for show, can't be all that bad.
The most recent issue of C/C? I just read that article. They used a 440 block and Stage V heads. Not cool. Nowhere in that article do they say whether the heads are available, not available, the guy had them layin' around... It's very misleading. At least say they're out of production, but this guy scored a set so he's building a hemi.

Are the Stage 5 conversion heads back in production? They still look like a good solution for a low-buck Hemi cruiser.

all that for nothin'. . . . .damn. Maybe not, it all depends on how I do on bonuses at the end of the year, last christmas my dept got $10K each, I didn't since I had only been here 2 months, so I got a lot less. So if I do get a nice fat bonus, I might just start assembling a hemi. But I wont know for sure till the end of the year. All hope is not lost.

$$ per horsepower - you'd be better off building a wedge.
No offense to 2nd Gen Hemi folks, but there is no sense in playing with that stuff unless you just have money to burn - or really good connections that give you half the stuff you'd need for free (maybe a case of beer).
Some people still stumble into really good deals, but that's not the majority of us.

This is the truth right here. Hemis are expensive to buy, and when something goes wrong... Just not a good idea unless you've got plenty of cash.

Although it will no doubt be fast, I would be doing it for the WOW factor, and just the sheer pride when you pop open the hood. I know, its hard to justify the cost, but there is something just intoxication about those valve covers.

I admit that I bought my Hemi for the wow factor as well. I also bought it for the resale value if I ever DID sell it. I also bought it for the 750 hp and 680 lb/ft. of torque that runs basically from 2600 to 6800 rpm. I also bought it for the valvetrain stability and bulletproof nature of the Hemi as a whole(if it's right) HMMM.. . . ..

I will admit when I bought my never fired rebuilt Hemi for a couple grand in a 68 Charger I thought the engine was way KOOL. Not a Hemi car I sold off the Charger. It's only a 12.5 motor, I need rocker arms for it and still have never installed it. Kids, divorce and lack of money. I have headers, a modified "K" frame and the Dart. Should have done the Alterkation (still thinking on that one) Next few years I hope to be doing this and this
