#230 400 block
« on: July 11, 2008, 12:10:22 AM »

What years exactly did the 400 #230 block have the thick webs?  I found a 1971, would that have them? And where exactly is a good reference other than 440source to read about the differences in these blocks so I can look it up next time I forget?

The casting date on the really good ones are supposed to be 10/10/1971 and prior.

Not everything is set in stone, that's the general change over date to the thinner main saddle 230's

I found an engine within an hour of me and the guy says the stamp is 11/23??/71 for $200.  I'm gonna go pick it up in a week.

be careful. Just because it has the numbers does not mean the cylinder walls are thick enough. I sonic checked 3 before i gave up and went aftermarket.

Yeah, well $200 is the cheapest I've been able to find a 400 for anyways so it's win/win.

So, in other words, that block is JUST past the right date.... Sad  That's OK, it's still cheaper than anything else I've found around here.
