Leaky oil filter adapter on a sm blk
« on: July 13, 2008, 05:55:55 PM »

Has anyone ever had a problem with the adapter on there small blk leaking? If so what did you do to rectify the problem?
I cant get mine to stop leaking around the adapter itself.

Any help would be appreciated.

take it apart and clean everything then use silicone to seal all the gaskets on both sides and make sure you have all the gaskets in there.

I could swear I used to get those gaskets in a Fel Pro kit, but that was twenty years ago.

It's nice to see that I'm not the only one who thought that fool bolt was tight enough. I had the same problem. The real fun was in dropping the header to get access to the bolt with a wrench *mumble*. Then reassemble everything and try again. Each test equates to a reheated header *mumble, mumble*. I actually contemplated removing the stupid thing and using a shorty filter but it sealed up on the first try. It did make a mess on my "Jet hot" coated headers though *sigh* Some days, you could just scream....   Frustrated

I had that happen before.  I ended up using silicone and letting it sit overnight.
