Stuffin' it in my buddys ol' 69' swept line tomorrow. Finally got the 1/2 rear sump pick up tonight at about 7:30. Whew!!  And no fitment promlems with the hughes stud girdle. Been sweating that for the past week! (rear sump pan not on engine in pics) Hope to see some of y'all at Woodburn this weekend!  Had to change out the water pump housing for the right side lower hose inlet. Its ugly, but pretty aint' fast!  440 Source Denso Alt. kit. Very nice for $160! Pullys also from 440 Source I wish it was mine!!

69 Swinger,3.54 Dana, 400/499, Stealth heads, Crower 262/266d, .686/.696L roller,11 to 1, 950 Bigs, E85 carb. Best so far, 10.82 @ 124mph through the mufflers.

Got a K & N oil filter on there!  Fired the engine this afternoon and broke in the cam. Got her squared away and went out to PIR for 1/8 mile drags. The truck ran 7.14, 7.11, 7.31 (missed a gear he said,  ), and a 7.02 Here is some info. on the truck 4000 Lbs. Built 727 w/ man. VB 499 CI lowdeck Victor 440 heads Victor 383 intake Hughes 6064 solid cam 35 deg. timing (advance locked out) Custom CES 2 in. headers Holly 830 DP (way to small in my opinion) 3000 stall 4.30 gears 29.5 tires Hoping to see some 10.8X's 1/4's this Sunday at woodburn

Its a long bed. Got a 1000 cfm 4150 carb for the drags tomorrow.

Well got some good news and some bad news. The truck ran a 11.08 1/4 at PIR Sat. night.  We loaded up and took off for Woodburn on Sunday Morning. Running an hour late because of me!  Heard a banging noise from the right side valve train and pulled the valve covers. We found the number 6 ex. pushrod spit out and the rocker all beat up and LOTS of aluminum shavings sitting inside the head.  Every single pushrod is hitting the valve cover sealing rail on the heads. I lil' bit of reading some posts on here and moparts I discovered that clearance is a known issue with the Victor heads, 3/8 pushrods and 1.6 rockers!! Wish we would have known about this before hand.  I Really, REALLY wish the machine shop would have caught this when they assembled the engine. So it looks like this engine is getting a complete teardown to inspect for any other damage from the aluminun shavings and god knows what else. Live and learn I suppose!

do i have this right? you build a new engine, crank it up, break in the cam, and go straight to the strip?? man you don't waste no time do you.. better luck next time!! you may want to check her out more, when you get her going, before you beat on her to hard..

That about sums it up! Except for the engine was assembled and was spun on a machine to break the cam on the outer srpings only by a local machine shop. I just fired the engine and ran it just like you would to break in a cam. Checked the valve lash after 30 mins. (was at .030, the cam is a tight lash Hughes cam , .012 & .010 lash), and went to the track. I didn't notice any interfearance with the pushrods then but Imay have overlooked it. Matter of fact I am sure I did.

Well if you only have 4- 1/8mile passes& a 1/4 pass on it you are going in the 10s,becauce every motor I did takes about 15 passes to free up,and if you don't have an airpan get one.  You going to get the 10.8s but it will go a .10 after15 or 20 passes.  Just the airpan will get over a .10 or better.

Do you guys have buckets or a bench in the truck? Not too shabby for a truck by the way. Good luck on future runs after the issues are sorted out. Shame for a new motor to be messed up like that though.

A single ratty bucket seat. We haven't touched it since the 20th. Taking a break I guess.

Ok guys. After some in depth investigating it looks like the marks on the vavle cover rail are the clearance marks the machine shop made for the pushrods. They were not made by the pushrods hitting. As a matter of fact all the work they did seems top notch, even marked the main stud girdle with the shim #'s. It appears the pushrod spit out because the adjuster lock nut backed off. ![\/][](http://www.bigblockdart.com/Smileys/classic/finger020.gif) Anybody have a TQ value for rocker arm adjuster nuts???

Well my buddy took the engine back to the builder and had it inspected and put back together. No issues other than a bent pushrod and chewed up rocker.  He took the truck out to Woodburn and ran a best of 10.86 w/ 1.55 60 ft. Not to bad for a 4000 Lb. Stock chassis PU with stock leaf springs eh??!! I'll get some pics of the truck.
