A couple questions I need help with...........
« on: July 18, 2008, 11:23:29 AM »

First question............. I bought the Flaming river manual steering box, I have a 69 Dart that is being converted from power to manual, do I need to change my Pitman arm?

Second question........i took my K frame out to glass bead, and change bushings and generally clean, paint and freshen up. when I removed the lower control arms, the drivers side bolt that holds the lower control arm to the K frame turned until the plate rotated around and then the nut came right off because the bolt stoped turning, The passenger side how ever continued to turn when the plate rotated and stopped, is there a ripped bushing or something inside the lower control arm because I would assume that it would have to stop or you would lose tension on the control arm when you adjust your torsion bar. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.  Thanks Dave

If the front end is old you need all new bushings and probably ball joints, too. It's apart, do it right.

I have done all the bushings and ball joints, what i am wondering is, is there a bushing inside the lower control arm that is behind the area that the torsion bar goes into? the torsion bar seat just keeps turning.

I'm lost; in the control arm, is a steel rectangular plate, no bushing.

Ahh, did you clock the torsion bar into the rear seat correctly? You mean you run out of thread before starting to get pressure?

But mine does spin, when I removed the lower control arm from the K member, there is a big nut that on the torsion bar shaft, when you try to remove that nut, the cam plate turns, it will only turn so far and then the nut will unthread and you can separate the lower control arm from the K frame. well I have one that keeps turning when the Cam plate stops which tells me the bushing inside must be deteriorated or riped. if this was the case.....when you crank up the tension on the torsion bar, it would eventually fail because there is nothing to keep the bar from turning. That's the only way i can explain the problem.  dave

Apparntly I need this to remove the lower control arm bushings from an A body.
