trany shifts real hard
« on: July 19, 2008, 10:32:08 PM »

When I took my Barracuda down the driveway, it would not shift out of first. On my way back I got on it a little more. When I got to around 4000 rpms it grabbed second real hard, almost with a bang. Trans has a TF2 in it. Do I need to play with the Kick down some more? Or could it be something else? I got this from a freinds street strip car. about one year old.

Did you just install this?

I actually know very little about autos, but if no one else chimes in, I'll ask my friend Pat on Monday. He runs a trans shop.

Did you use the same converter as he or one of your own?  Check the line pressure.

Shorten Your linkage at the carb. This is also refered to kick down linkage, the correct name is throttle pressure control linkage. By shortening it it lowers the pressure in the trans that holds the clutches an bands on, thus allowing the governor pressure to rise faster enabling a shift to occur at lower road speed. DONT operate the trans. with this linkage disconnected, to do so will burn it up.The only way you can operate it like this is with a manual shift body.

agree  Yes start by shortening the linkage. Its pretty sensitived. The lower throttle pressure will lower the rpm and the shift intensity too.

Well, I'm hopring that I found the problem. I was having trouble with the kick down sticking. So with the car back up on stands I found the the kick down was rubbing on the back of the block. This in turn was causing the kick down to jam all the way back. I also droped the pan to make sure the valve body was not jacked. So as of now the kick down moves freely, and the valve body seems to be ok. We will see tomarrow when I button it all back up. Popcorn Popcorn
