Wow. I finally got a tank of gas for my little Lincoln mig welder. I'm sure most of you have made this revelation already, but sure was an eye opener for me On the left is some flux core welds for comparison. On the right is my first attempt at using the gas. I was practicing with different settings. I still have a long way to go to even do a decent job, but it sure is better than it was!!

practice-practice-practice-I got a new welder coupla months ago and I'm still trying to get to know it. I've never liked flux cored wire. I've always found it "spattery", porous, and rough looking. The beads on the right look pretty smooth

what size bottle did you get? it always helps to go bigger on the gas bottle, i kept the small one as a spare/back up in case the bigger bottle runs out on a job. good luck, & keep practiceing.

I certainly prefer gas too, but on my Miller, you need to reverse the polarity inside the unit, depending on whether using gas or flux core...

I converted mine back to flux core , according to the chart gas mode uses more amperage and I couldn`t weld as thick of metal I wanted to . The chart on the wire compartment door is what I went by and now I get much better looking welds. The gas would be good for body work and sheet metal , but I would stay away from frame stuff . Good Luck with your machine ! Chryco

I've also heard the the quality of the wire you are using makes a big difference. I just grabbed the cheapest flux core I could find when I bought the thing. Maybe that is why the flux core welds SUCK so bad??

Alot more fun with the gas isn't it. One of the most fun new tools you can buy. If you are running stringers, overlap the previous bead by 25 - 40 percent. We need a welder smiley BTW.

We need a welder smiley BTW. That would be cool. The smiley could flip the helmet down with a nod; and have sparks fly. (wish i knew that code)
