ss spring ?
« on: July 23, 2008, 08:11:40 PM »

Like most of you, I horse trade parts around. I traded some parts for what I was told were SS springs (used) They have been in storage for quite some time.
I just happend to have a poly bushing kit and thought I would put them in. Well to my amazement, they dont fit. There are 2 dif size front spring eyes-right? The bushings for the 1/2" bolts
go right in. But the 5/8 bushings will not fit (too big) am I wrong, or did I get taken. did they make 2 diff sizes?

yes there were 2 different spring eye sizes ... 2" and 1.5" are the sizes ... as far as I know all of the SS springs were 1.5 " eyes

Measure them up and have a machine shop turn you some solid steel bushings . They`ll work that much better.

This car had solid steel bushings with 3400 # S/S springs and worked quite well .........

Those don't look like my SS springs.  There should be fewer leaves and biased more to the front.  Mine had a part number stamped into the bottom leaf.

The SS I bought in the late '80s from Hamburger are 6 and 8 leaf.
