I Spent Last Night in the Hospital
« on: July 25, 2008, 10:49:08 PM »

I had a pain in my chest, up real high for about 5 days.  I was sure it was a respiratory infection.  I mentioned it to my wife and ten minutes later she calls me back and says I spoke to the doctor, she said go straight to the Emergency Room.  I said there's no way in hell I'm going to an ER in Manhattan.  I'll finish work and go out by the house.  I neglected to tell her this was 5 days old and I went mountain biking with the pain.
So... I get off the train and drive to the hospital.  They did an EKG and admitted me. My pressure was a little high, but now, for some reason, the pain was gone.  They asked all the questions, do I smoke, do I drink, blah blah blah....
They couldn't find anything wrong, so this morning, they released me and set up a stress test with the Cardiologist. I do the stress test. Took 11.5 minutes for my heart rate to reach 150 BPM and four minutes to recover completely. Now, everyone is completely baffled.  No one can figure out why I had pain, but thankfully, I'm healthy as a horse.

I know what is wrong.

You have sleep apnea.

I had the same damn thing, didn't relate the two. While my friend was suffering from Apnea, and having issues, I never related his issues with mine.
Basically, as I got less and less sleep, your body starts to panic and you get panic attacks, chest pains, and general irritability. At the end, you have a stroke and die. That is what my friends dad died of at 58.

I was having chest pains at first, I went to the doctor, cardiologist, did the stress tests after tests, everything showed I was really healthy. For 10 years, I couldn't find out what the issue was. I started having the panic attacks and really started to go downhill health wise about 3 years ago.

Finally, I did a sleep study and they found out I had apnea, about 7-10 incidents per hour. Not as severe as some, worse than others. I finally had sergury for turbanite reduction and polyp removal in march. I have NEVER breathed better, I don't even snore anymore. The chest pains are gone. The panic attacks are gone. I don't get mad anymore. I don't feel tired, even on 4 hours of sleep (I still  have young ones).

Obviously, I've never even played a doctor on TV, so take this free speculation for what it is....

I agree with the possibility of sleep apnea. I was diagnosed about 2 years ago. I had all the symptoms extremely aggressive mood swings pain in chest etc. I would be driving and have no recollection of what took place for a couple of minutes. (not enough sleep) My wife has it as well. Unfortunately she ended up having a stroke before it was diagnosed. It is worth a look if nothing else

Same here, sleep apnea, gall stones, and a hyetial hernia. Gall stones can give you serious chest pains, too. My sis' used to double over with pain, before they cut her's out. They did a sleep study on me, and now I wear a nose mask with a machine hooked to it. Kinda like a supercharger blowin air thru my nose to keep the air passages open. Side affect: lots of gas in the morning. lol moon LOL Hey, why don't we have one of those little guys that farts? lol bash
I used to get pains in my arm, numbness in my jaw, tinggling in the head, and chest pains. If the pains moved around my chest some, it was gas. I did several gall bladder flushes, of which I still do ( http://www.relfe.com/gall_stone_cleanse.html )  with much success. I would recommend everyone do those a few times a year. Another good read: http://asktom-naturally.com/cleanse.html

Damn. That's interesting. Sleep Apnia.   My buddy just had that test done on himself because he ws always tired and angry.  They made him the mask.  Turns out, he just took a two week leave from our job to do his Coast Guard time and he claims he never felt or slept better.  Now, back at work, he's startin with the symptoms again.  I guess he really doesn't like it there.
I'll get myself checked out too. Thanks for the ideas.

Pedals, I'm not sure why it wasn't scaring me.  It actually felt like it was in my lungs, which kinda made sense because I was drilling holes in studs in my house which had a little mildew on them, I assumed I had picked up a respiratory infection from the dust.  Last Sunday, I went mountain biking and rode up Hurl Hill and even though the pain was there, my heart rate was normal and I never felt bad.  I know it was stupid, but it was kinda like a load test.

Wow, NYrr496. Makes sence to me. I got so tired of the pain, I decided it would either kill me or go away. I sometimes ate several jalepenos just as an excuse for the burning pains. Working on my car helped work out the gas, and brrrrr  moon, pugh, always felt better. I think not exercising is a big part of the problem.

That's a test you shouldn't do.  God forbid if it was something horribly serious, your family would be grieving over you right now.  Chest pain isn't something to play around with.  My dad was only in his 30's and dropped over dead!  God only knows how long he was walking around with a pain.

Several years ago I had similar symptoms. Went to cardiologst. He asked about 10 questions, started to stress (him not me) a little, and did an EKG ASAP. After the test he said all 10 questions said heart attack. Set up a nuclear stress test. Shot me full of green glowing dye and put me on the tread mill. After 13 min I still wasn't out of breath and pulse wasn't up as far as they wanted. They made some wise crackes about me not paying my bill at the club and coming in to work out. I said heck UPS works me harder than that for 10 hrs straight. The next day I went to see the cardiologist and he said your hearts fine see ya.

I was just getting over the flew, bronchitus, and a long peak season at work with little sleep. Plus a 42 year old guy at work dropped dead of a heart attack a few weeks earlier. It's funny how many different things can cause chest pains and scare you into having a heart attack, Joe.

Know what happened? A nurse came over to me in the morning with a bucket and handed it to me and said follow me.  She took me to the bathroom and said wash up.  Second time ever in the hospital, second time I had to wash myself.  I'm beginning to think either I'm ugly or a spongebath is a myth.

And thanks, everyone for the well wishes.

Man!!  Have you ever tasted that Aloe Juice?  My chiropractor turned me onto it along with Acidopholis tablets to clear up an ulcer.  That stuff tastes like puke.  I had to mix it 50% with cranberry juice to get it down.

I always do the lemon/olive oil one. Be sure to use the cold press  extra virgin stuff. And definitely do it when you don't have to work the next day. I feel like someone kicked my rear the next day.  cat fight puke A nutrisionist told me to do it till I could see no more stones, then about once a month would be fine. There are several different types of flushes, google it and see. I asked my doc about doing it once. He laughed and said that it was not possibly for the flush to work. So, I asked the nutrisionist. He says the olive oil is to help the stone slip thru the little tube connected to the gall bladder. The lemon juice's acid causes the gall bladder to spasm, which in turn squeezes the stones out of the bladder. That is why you lay on your right side to sleep during the flush. I was also told to bend the right leg up. This helps put pressure on the bladder.  Dunno One things for sure, the proof is in the poopin. LOL Sorry, I just couldn't help it. LOL

Saturday night, I was at my buddy's house.  My wife text messaged me saying she and the kids were at the little crab shack at the marina and they had music.  I sent a message back asking Reggae music?  She texts back Live music.  My buddy's wife said No wonder you're having chest pains.

agree I get PVC's too. Thought I was having a doggone heart attack. Went to the ER. They said nope, PVC's. Went to the cardio. Healthy heart and everything looks good. Wonder if I don't have sleep apnia too. My dad wore a c-pap (sp?) for years.

What do you think? No.

I did have follow up visits at the cardiologist last weekend.  Since the hospital stay, I've lost twenty four pounds and my pressure is 120 over 80. I got back into biking full swing and I feel better than ever.  Even treated myself to a new mountain bike.

My buddy, who does have sleep apnia, seems to be over it.  He wore that mask thing for a month, he said trying to sleep with that was worse and now that he knows our job is making him miserable and there isn't really anything wrong with him, he sleeps great.

I actually sleep like a dead man. My wife says she can't wake me up.  I ask why do you feel you need to wake me up? She replies she can't sleep sometimes.  So what... Because she can't sleep she has to wake me up too??

It's not that she can't sleep and wants company. She wants a little action, but doesn't want you to know she wants a little action. If you know she really wants a little action, the I've got a headache thing will never work again. So, Friday night get up about 2AM and see what happens, maybe a little action. Or maybe a lot of action when you wake her up because my theory was all wrong and she didn't want you to wake her up buggin her for some action.

Anyway, good luck with the chest pains. Mine pretty much went away, especially if I lay off the fast foods, and keep it to one big cup of coffee at a time, Joe.

When she wants action, she wakes me up just fine.  We're having a little action struggle right now related to other house issues.  Now, in order to cover up the fact that she is uninterested in action, she tells me she tried and tried to wake me up BECAUSE she WANTED action, but I didn't wake up.  That didn't happen.  She knows EXACTLY how to wake me up.  Problem is, if she wakes me up because she can't sleep, but she doesn't want action, she better be ready for some, "cause if I wake up....

I remember that early episode of South Park where everyone was farting a hole in the ozone layer, so they decided to hold their farts and then they were spontaneously combusting.  They then came to the conclusion that it was all right to fart sometimes.
