OK, I need HELP!! I'm putting a '93 Dakota fuse/relay box in my '69 Barracuda. I removed the main connection to the box to make it easier to work with. Some of the wires to the relays were small gauge, and I want to run at least 12 gauge wire on the circuits that are actually supplying power to the accessories. HOWEVER....I removed the white clips on the back, then using these tools; along with some other very small screwdrivers and a dental pick; I was unable to remove the female ends that recieve the relay connectors. It might be the tools, could be the operator, or both....but I'm stuck until I can figure out how to get these relay connectors out! Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Are you following the assumption that there is only one retainer tab on each connector? Could be that there is more than one retainer, and/or they could be along the "ends" and not just the sides. If there is more than one, it's gonna exercise your vocabulary getting them out, as you probably can't grow a third hand anytime soon.

Look @ the base of the plug for the red retaining clip. Will need to be pulled to the side.

You didn't show the top view so I have to go off what I believe it is. (see pic) If you look closely at the bottom of the part in the pic. You can see a barb that locks it into the body of the plug or block, which ever. You'll have to remove the white secondary supports from the back side first then from the front/top, insert your eye glass screw driver/paper clip/whatever tool fits in to the groove matching the barb, and push it closed before the little monster will let you have the wire end. Sometimes they are a bit zealous about doing their job. Worse comes to worse, take a wire you don't intend on using and experiment on it. If it decides to continue to pi** you off you can rip it out and examine the corpse to see what it is looking for you to do that you haven't yet tried.

Wait a minute. You want to replace small diameter wire and replace it with 12 guage wire where it plugs into the block? That may make the junction in the block the weak link. How about using the original wires to activate a remote mounted relay and run the 12 guage wire from a small Painless Wiring Block with fused connections. It will remove the load from your interior switches and your connector block. The original small wire will only have the load from the coil in the relay on it.

Looking at the pic, it shouldn't be a problem as there are large dia' wires using the same type terminals in the same body. The web site where I got the pic above had brass and zinc terminals for 16 to 10 gauge wires. The only difference I'm aware of is the thickness of the terminals metal itself and/or the length of the crimping "ears" to accomadate the added wire thickness.
