dakota spindles?
« on: March 08, 2006, 07:09:36 PM »

Just came back from the junk yard and couldn't find any ''B'' body spindles from a passenger car. There was a 87 dakota lying around, the spindle looks pretty much the same as the ''B'' body one. Is it really a ''B'' body spindle? The guy told me that the 87-89 dakota used the rotors from a volare. He wants 100$ can for both spindles, which I found a bit pricey, but its the only thing I could find after calling a dozen junk yards.... I also saw some drop spindles for 87-96 dakota, would they fit?

BTW my car is a 68 dart with tiny 9'' drums.

Thanks

Fred

Hey Fred, there was an article in Mopar Muscle a while ago on spindles. I will look for it. I bought my spindles and upper A arms from a guy on ebay for $200. They were 73-76 A body pieces. I got everything including the rotors. Check on ebay, you might find something. You will need upper A-arms for the larger ball joint.

I got the spindles/calipers for my 73 off an 85 5th Avenue, and 80's Dippy will work also.

The article was in March 2005. The spindle was used on 73 and up B,FJ,M and R body cars. I can scan it and send a PDF if you would like.

The Dakota spindles are not even close to being the same as any of the older car spindles.   It looks like the rotors are not Volare rotors either.

They look the same as the B spindle. It does have the steering knuckle/balljoint bolted behind the spindle just like the B spindle. All the holes are in the same location too.

Is it just bigger Huh I dont have any dimensions to compare it to the B spindle....

The spindles are defenitley not the same when it comes to the rotors. Ive been looking around for performance rotors for awhile for a 5 bolt dakota and no one makes them:( And I am pretty sure there are some kits out there for the Volares  and B body spindles. I hope that I might be wrong because that would open up a few possibilities but I dont think I am:(

The upper ball joint taper is larger on the dakota spindle. The length of the spindle shaft is longer on the dakota spindle. The bolt spacing for the caliper adapter bracket is further apart than the B spindle. The ball joint bolt spacing is further apart than the B spindle.

I just double checked and the dakota spindle is like 10 feet taller  hammer than the B spindle. And I found some 86 new yorker spindles for less.
