After years of 340's i have jumped on the band wagon and picked up a few BB motors. I went to install a holley street dominator on a 383. and had to use a crowbar to get the gooped down intake off.It had thin paper on both sides of the valley pan. The question is, do i need gaskets on my new valley pan, goop or what?

I just use the valley pan unless the heads or block has been cut excessively, then you will need to set the intake back on and see how much distance you need to make up ...

I always use the one piece metal gaskets and the only place I use any sealer is across the front and rear edges of the block. No sealer on the heads except in the corners where it meets up with the block. I never torque them very tight either and have reused the same gasket many times over with no problem. I always mark the front of the gasket and put it back on the same way it came off.
