Driveshaft Length

I have a 71 Dart with a 383 a 727 and schumacher mounts.Anyone know what length driveshaft I need? Thanks,Gary

Depends on what rearend you have AND if the engine is in the stock location. That's why I measure every car I build. Put the yoke all the way in the transmission and measure center-center on the u-joints WITH the weight of the car supported at the rear axle, NOT the body. Subtract 3/4" from that measurement and that's what you need.

definately measure  to be sure  ----  my shaft was 48.25"  .    440/727/8.75

My 70 dart w 8.75 was 48"  It could have been about 1/4 inch shorter though.

agree 68 2dr HT. 383/727/8.75 on 20/35 springs. 48.25"

The car is on jack stands the 2 rear stands are under the rearend housing.Is it ok to measure like that.Just put in a 383 stroked to a 496.Only this driveshaft and steering column {cause i went to manual} and this thing should be ready to fire.Appreciate the advice guys

that should work--   but  make the extra effort  and grab a helper---  crawl under it with the car on the ground  and confirm  your measurement.


Usually  driveshaft shops  will only make you  ONE  shaft---------If u screw up the measurement----you will have to buy ANOTHER shaft.....
