Welp looking at the amount of time I have before winter and it doesn't look like I'll get my TBI setup on the ramcharger, so I figured seeing as I'm getting tired of the 2bbl I'll switch to a 4bbl thermoquad. Anyone know what I'm going to have to find out on my carb to buy a rebuild kit and how much it should be?
I'm going to fab up a new dual exhaust system and switch the headlight/grille setup to my 79 quad headlight grille and if I can get it in the new 80 dash.

when are the drags? maybe I can come meet you and doug and hang out. I have to be at ACMS on the 22nd we're racing so I have to be there. I'll have to find the pieces of the carb and find a kit. You think a local parts store would have the kit? I have a company discount at Sutherland Auto in the city and last time I bought parts I saved over 150 bucks for rotors and pads for my truck.

regardless of their original use (GM), the Q-jets are known to be very decent, very tunable spreadbores with more than a few using them in serious HP projects. not to mention there are probably somewhere in the neighborhood of a billion of them floating around bone yards across the planet.

ok so whats the better carb of the two then? I'm sure we have 4 or 5 quadrajets sitting in the garage or somewhere. I just figured I'd use the carb that was already cleaned, I just want a carb that I don't have to throw a screwdriver down the choke to make it fire in the cold. Sick of that, Plus this 2bbl seems like it's dying on me. yeah maybe I'll jet out to the dragstrip this weekend depends when I wake up .

Look at the carbs you have and select the one with the largest primary bores and the least stuff on the front of the air horn. Later lean burn carbs had a funky looking valve on the front. you don't want to run one of those. Check out this website for some good info demonsizzler.com or something close to that address. Also TQ's are quite easy to tune in as long as the jets are close. The SA design Carter book has some good info on tuning in it.

Running a thermoquad on mine. I got a kit for mine at Oriellys for about 30.00. Brass floats were about 15.00 for a pair.

A thermoquad will keep you busy, but the sound they make when tuned right is like no other.
