I might be buying a 66 Dart 270 this weekend. PICS ADDED 9/04/2008
« on: August 27, 2008, 11:53:33 AM »

This is the Dart I am looking at buying, the price is very right.

its a 66 270, Good straight body very little rust.Trim & glass all there in good shape, headlight trim missing. auto. 6 cyl. A/C,pwr. steer car, not running.

Some questions, I want to get it running and a 6 cly daily driver car.

It has no title, what the procedure for getting a title/ I am in TX.
I want to add front disks, is this the same as swapping 73+ components?
How hard is it to find the headlight buckets?

OK, part two of the question.

I have a spare low comp 400 engine, whats involved in swapping it in? If I do, it may become a drag only car. I would not mind cutting the front fenderwells out. Are there readily available headers? Mounts?

I have some BB fenderwell headers made for an early A, not perfect but very useable.  Let me know if you go that route.

I swapped in 73+ junk into mine, went fine.  Motor mounts would need to be fabbed I suppose, the early K seems easier to work with as it is "bare".

No clue on the title, if you were in MN i could help you.  Find a tow company you know and have them impound it and go that route??

Looks fun!

It seems to be a good deal, but I have to see it in person, its sitting about 50 miles north of me, the guy is offering to trailer it down to my house for $450 complete. It does have some rear 1/4 rust, and some floor pan rust. I am going to take a look at it on Sunday, if it is good, I might have it sitting in my driveway Monday.

Its your car that made me think that the 66 is the best looking, then I saw this car at a race, I was sold. I am going to either paint it the factory copper color, or white.

I love my little 66... glad another one will be saved.  They are just not that many around anymore.  It's why I like it, unique!

I love the looks of 66s as well.  I hope you get it fly.  A nice little small block will be a lot easier to build than dropping the 400 in it, but either way, it'll be a fun little car.

I think small block is even easier than the later cars. I'd suggest little ramp-up on 273 and can be a daily driver to enjoy and get pretty decent gas mileage from. (somewhere just over 20)

I think the 66 is the best looing of the early Darts (62-66) and I had one myself back in the 70's and early 80's.  I might still have had it today if I had not rolled it 6 times in 1982 at the track.   I added the 6pk scoop and I really liked the way it looked on the car.  Good luck in getting yours.    Smiley    Ron

I passed on buying the car after I looked at.

The body was in great shape, the paint was baked off and there was surface rust on the roof, hood, and trunk, and there was a 3" hole in the lower left 1/4, bu it was very straight, and all the trim except the windshield and headlight bezels was there. it was an auto slant 6 car with 9" drums and 13" wheels. All the glass was there and in very good shape, but the only thing inside was the frame of a bench seat and front door panels, everything else was missing.

I decided to pass because the car needed more work than I wanted to put into it right now, but it would be an excellent project for anyone that would not mind stripping the car down and media blasting it. If anyone is interested, he was asking $450 and is willing to deliver the car, free within a 25 mile drive of Lewisville TX. PM me and I will pass on the number. I have some good pics I will post later tonight.

The guy selling it is a ford/chevy guy, but he dragged it out of a friends field because he was going to crush it. He really just wants the car saved, thats why he is selling it so cheap, its in great shape, it would make a nice project.

BEWARE using title companies to obtain a title for a car that doesnt have one!  I am going through a heap of $hit right now with my state DMV b/c I used a title service.  Its been 7 years since I used what I thought was a legal title service and now suddenly the DMV is after my ass.

Just saw that car today, looks good. There was just a 273-4 4spd '66 GT in my area for $350 no motor/trans, project or plus factory trans for $750, sold in about 2 weeks, pretty quick for any Dart 'round these parts. (probably the 4 spd part, guys are into that BIG here)
