Does anybody know of a place that sells decent price torsion bars?? I could SWEAR that 2-3 years ago they were $150-160 for a pair of a-body bars. Now I can't seem to find any cheaper than $299. What gives? This car is going to be the death of my wallet! 200 here, 100 there...etc

It's everything prices. The last 12 months has pushed everything skyward. Wait till you ship something if you want a real shock....

Steel prices have gone through the roof. We are scrambling to figure stuff out at work because of it. Resin prices have jumped also it is all about the oil.

One of the suspension companies, (JUST SUSPENSIONS?) sell them for $199. About 3 years ago the prices jumped quite a bit.

Well, some parts are underpriced to get the ball rolling, which would be the case 3 years ago. This year though, any price increases you see are likely necessary. Well, not always, but probably. I say that because of what I've seen. All my suppliers routinely issue new price sheets every december, and they just eat any slight increases through-out the year. Some also do free shipping to dealers if the purchase is over a certain amount, say $2500.
This year, I got another new price change in the middle of July, most of them were 10% increases, and the free freight limit was raised quite a bit. One company stopped the free-freight offer altogether. These places are dealer-only, and wouldn't risk such a drastic mid-year change to their dealers unless it was really necessary.
Material costs are a small portion - it's really everything. electric bills are doubling, insurances are through the roof, shipping is totally out of this world, plating processes are up 50%, even little things like cutters and machine coolant have doubled. And the more processes it takes to make something, the more things there are to cost more.
And for the first time really, the costs of imported stuff is jumping, which none of us are used to seeing - between shipping costs and the low dollar, anything imported is rising quickly - that's why alot of big companies are moving operations back to the US - the shipping costs are already making imports more expensive than US-made stuff.... in this sense, I suppose it will eventually be a good thing - Over the next couple of years, Made In The USA will be popular again - we just have to deal with things until this correction is over.

not to get off topic but since bill mentioned import prices jumping up, i have always thought and wondered what kind of trouble we would be in if a place like china or mexico got some odd leader and decided to look out for the workers and thier rights. give them conditions, safe work enviroments, could you imagine if they actually demanded fair pay and benefits. back to the torsion bar rpices. before they jumped i bought a set of .920s and i kind of wanted something a little stiffer. after the price jump forget it, im sticking with what i have.
