window gaskets - shrunk

anyone have a problem with year one window gaskets being too small and srinking up.. Thereby leaking ?

I had both the front and rear glass removed to check for rust as there was signs of leakage. I found no rust but the vinyl top was placed under the glass' weather stripping causing the leaks and the staples that hold the top on only added to the problem. I sealed up the staple holes and elimnated the vinyl top. I used new (Year one) weatherstrips/gaskets and had the old rear glass and new front windshiled reinstalled and they BOTH leaked! Not just a little, but pretty bad. I had to take it back to the glass guy and have him reseal it. So I tend to think there is a problem and not necesssarily with the glass guy. Good thing I didn't have the package tray and carpet in yet.
