Late Model A-Body Modification
« on: September 13, 2008, 02:10:42 PM »

Anyone on this board ever do this to a late model (73-76) A-Body? Specifically, tucking in the front bumper and getting rid of the filler strip. (see photos below). I would think you'd need different bumper brackets, but anything else? Any tips or how-to's! Thanks, DB

I'm in the process of doing this now on my 75 dart. It's currently at the body shop getting painted. The real reason is because I went to fiberglass bumpers and had to make custom brackets anyway. What I eneded up doing was taking some 1" square tubing and cutting it to the contour of the inner part of the fiberglass bumper. Then putting rubber washers inbetween the metal and the fiberglass to hopefully keep it from cracking the fiberglass. It took some time and it doesn't exactly look perfect, but who is going to see it. I don't have any pics right now. But it is possible and I believe that it looks much much better with the bumper tucked in tight.

Take the impact brackets and take them apart, cut the metal off and weld them back together where you want them.
