ProParts and plug wires- What are others using?
« on: September 18, 2008, 11:20:42 PM »

I seem to be burning through a couple sets a year. High temp boots just buy me a little extra time. Any one else have good luck with any particular brand/type?

Have you tried wrapping the plug wires with something? Header wrap on them might work...

The best way I figured to route them was to go under the headers. They are away from the heat, the real problem comes from 2 cylinders burning through the boots. I have the Taylor braided fiberglass protectors over them, but they are so close they eventually burn through. I've looked at the Jacobs ceramic boot wires but I'm not sure I'm ready to pay $200+ for spark plug wires.

I would use a real high temp sleeve.  They sell them through Jeg's etc.  How many sets have you bought?  Do they equal 200 yet?

I use MSD's 8.5mm  wires w/straight bendable ends w/ high temp boot socks as required. a couple spots needed 90 ends but thats easy enough to do.

On the van I had a problem burning through boots on #6.

I found that my MSD 8.5 mm with the "good" 90 degree boots were too thick and got it too close to the header, causing a burn through.

I took a set of cheapy wires with a thin as all hell 90 degree boot and used that boot instead. No more problems. The extra 1-2 mm of air gap completely solved the problem. In that case the thicker boot made the problem worse.
