E-Bay
« on: September 21, 2008, 04:50:56 PM »

I was thinking about setting up an E-Bay account to get rid of some 50's and 60's brand X hot rod stuff I've had for years. I was going through the prompts and they wanted a credit card# which I understand and would do. But, they also wanted your checking account #. I'm not real hot on giving that out. Is that a must? I didn't see any prompt to get around it so I cancelled. Could use any help and advice on setting up an account, thanks, Joe.

I never gave Ebay that information. Paypal uses it though.

When you get paid, the money has somewhere to go. Last I checked, you COULD choose to have Paypal mail you a check instead for (of course) a fee.

You don't necessarily have to use paypal, you can have people pay you with money orders or whatever. As a buyer, I like to buy from people who accept credit cards or Paypal.

Double-check all this info though. It's been quite a while since I went through all that. You could just email Ebay and ask.

I would suggest opening up a seperate account (possibly even in a different bank) than the one you normally deal with. Just another step in safety.

ACTUALLY, come the new year Ebay is no longer allowing checks or money orders.  Credit/Debit cards only and paypal only.  Great!
AND, they never used to ask for a checking/savings account, just a credit card #.  I bought a prepaid debit card for that reason.  NOW, to get "verified" status with Paypal you have to have a checking/savings account, but to me that means nothing.

Really?  Well, I guess that means Ebay loses a customer.  I don't have, and won't start a Paypal account or debit card, and for damn sure never send my financial account numbers out through a computer.  I use strictly USPS money orders when I do get something off of Ebay.
I hate this "progress" we have going on anymore.  Electronic funds transfer............there's no security to it.  There's just too many good hackers out there for my personal sense of security.

[]{}I just don't know enough about this kind of stuff to feel safe. With my luck I'd wind up giving my life savings away. Back to the issue of following the prompts to set up an account I may have gone into Pay Pal and didn't even notice. I can use my buddies account but it's more convient to do it at home since I work the night shift. Thanks all, Joe.
