I have a chance to get a 1969 Dart a true GTS. The body has been media blast with primer on it.  The motor is a rebuild 440 with dual quads. All the parts are there, but need to be put back together.  The guys says he has around 14000.00 in it,  wants it gone, says make him a offer.  How much is it worth ?

Ooooooohhhhh. 14 grand. Ouch. I get a kick out of guys who think they should be able to sell a half-completed car and get their investment out of it. Hell, you usually lose money when the car is DONE.

I agree with the above.

It could be worth the money, try working up from the $5k you want to try, be polite and imply (don't say) that you're open to working up.

In 99 I bought my 68 #'s matching Cuda 383 convert for 2K and drove it home. Last year I bought a 66 Fury convert with 54k original miles. To keep from offending the gentiman I pulled a comparable car off EBay and started subtracting every thing wrong with the car. The original asking price was 14,000. But a mint one had just sold for 7000 on ebay. New paint-3000, new bumpers-600 each, Quarter rust, etc etc. My final offer was 2500, 2 weeks later he called and said if I could go 3000 I could have it.I didn't stiff him and I didn't kill myself either. I got a nice car I can take to cruis ins untill my Cuda is done. The original owner had passed away and the estate was trying to sell it so they were motivated to get rid of it.

I don't know what a 440 GTS goes for, 40K? How much would you stilll have to put into it to get there. Check the 5th digit of the vin, I think it should be an M for special order V8. Or maybe L for 440 HP. Anyway if you don't have the matching engine and trans you bassically have a race car. Long story short if it all matches and the body is decent and you can get it for 5K and you have 5K go for it, Joe.

PS pics would really help. I say go for it and all his 14000 worth of parts and stuff turn out to be junk and you'll want to skin my hide, good luck, Joe.

I'm know of a true 68' blue on blue with all original pcs including tach, grill nose and matching numbers on everthing. All drivetrain is rebuilt but needs new quaters, floors and trunk but does come with extra car for 10k. I'm still thinking about it and he's in no rush to sell.

The second letter "S" is the price class of the car which is special also. The 5th digit, "M" would be special order V8 engine. In another post I said the engine code should be "L" for 440 HP and I was corected and told the 440 cars were special order engine cars and had the "M" Code. All of the original 440 A bodies I've seen at shows, maybe 3 of them, were "M" codes. Not trying to argue. I've been around these cars for 40 years, before #'s meant anything, and I'm still a novice and on a learning curve, Joe.

Whether it's a real 440 (should be an M, but you gotta run the tag as well I think) or a real 383, they tend to go for between 40 and 90K. Many of those cars were optioned almost exactly the same, so while they are rare, they aren't "interesting", so a good 383 bench 4-on the floor premium radio car goes for tons while the meat-and-potatoes buckets auto 383 goes for a little more than a 340. They may go up as the original mid-size cars run out though.

My 68 Cuda is an H code 383, convertable, 4spd. Other than the Formula S package the only option on the car is the deluxe interior. No tach, no 150 speedo, No sure grip. One speaker A/M radio. But, I like it. To me it's the essence of muscle car. Big motor, small car, stick, that's all. Maybe by the time my left knee wears out it'll be worth a little place on the beach, Joe.
