Well tank problem
« on: September 22, 2008, 11:44:18 PM »

Ok,
My well pump keeps short cycling. If you turn on the water it kicks on and off every couple seconds. The pump does not run if i shut the water off so it isn't outside. This happened before about 2 months  ago.The water pressure seems to also want to surge up and down.I emptied the pressure tank and checked the air pressure. It was a bout 4lbs or so low.So i pressurized it and turned the pump back on and adjusted the cut in and cut out pressures. It has been running fine since then.My daughter came to me tpday and said it keeps cutting in and out.I think my bladder in my tank is water logged.I havent taken the air pressure yet but last time it was fairly close. Is it possible for your air bladder to be water logged and not lose very much pressure?I'm really pin pointing the tank.I also took the pressure switch off)which is about 3 yrs old)and cleaned it.It had a little crust/rust in it and i cleaned it out.Didn't seem to be much of an issue.Any help would be great. Thanks

Replace the expansion tank. Sounds like the bladder has a leak

Does the pressure switch have a differential pressure adjustment? It could be set too close. That would also cause a short cycling problem.

My older system without the bladder would get water logged at the presure switch.  I would have water all the way to the switch with no air in that line at all, and it would short cycle on and off.

Drain it all ,  check the switch.

Ok,I checked everything, made minor adjustments.I think my daughter was tripp'n out.I checked it while the wife was in the shower and it's only cycling about every 3 minutes or so.Not like it was before when it was cycling every 5 seconds. All seems good now.Thanks.

Change the points style contact switch also. I had this problem. Had a bad bladder along with a tired switch. I think the switch is a common maintance item. You can get them at home centers, TSC, ect.
