6 pack breather base
« on: September 24, 2008, 05:34:41 PM »

I'm looking for the base for a 6-pack air breather. I have a chrome cover from mancini's and a new filter but don't have a base. If anybody has a used one that is in fair shape, I could sure use it.

Here's a complete assembly on ebag. (Not mine)   Mopar Tri Power Mr Norm 440 Air Cleaner   Item number: 300263972064  Mr Norm put them on the Demon GS with the 340 6-packs at his dealership. They were the only ones that would clear the underhood frame on Demons and most A-bodies without "clearancing" the underhood frame. Might be bore then you wanted, but thought I'd put it out there. Mine was bought last spring for $275 with shipping. Usually see them go for just over $200 on ebag for 'Vettes.

i have heard that those cast alluminum "tri-power" air cleaners were used on the Mr. Norms cars, but has anyone noticed that on a mopar six pack the "tri power" is upside down when installed. i was told by an old Ford mechanic that they were originally used on early 60's fords which mounted the carbs backwards with the linkage on the pass side and operated the linkage with belcranks. i have seen a similar setup on a 64 ford with factory 2x4 carb setup.  you can't just reverse the top on this air cleaner due to the offset of the studs. anybody have any more info, or can confirm or deny any of this?
there was a guy selling old school looking rectangular single air cleaners, but i haven't seem them on there for a while, but hotheads sells them now.
they look pretty cool.    Doug

I'm the guy that bought the air cleaner from the e Bay ad.
Paid 300 bucks for it, as i thought it was worth it to me.
The K & N air filter element that goes with it made it worthwhile also.
Now i just have to wait for the UPS man.

Hi, I fixed mine so it is "right side up" with the letters going the right way when you pop the hood. I used some threaded stock-All thread, ect.. and bent it so it offsets the top. When its installed you can't tell it was any other way.
Only problem I (still) have is finding a drop in filter that doesn't break the bank. I currently have a Baldwin PA632 filter I bought for $14, and had to "shorten" it to fit the housing. Its between 1 and 2" too long on each side, that I cut out. But for that price, I will use it as a driver! If you look real close, you can tell its been modified.
