Lead fumes are pretty bad for you. So be careful.

And you may want to lay off the CAPS LOCK.  Just a thought.

just got thru putting a new roof skin on my 69 dart due to severe ammount of rust under the vinal top. i wire wheeled all the lead out in the front and reat corners to grind out the spot welds and there was no rust under the lead even though the top was rusted thru in many places. if you see no rust by the leaded areas, i'd probably not take it out. use your judgement

i cant see how it coul rust under th elead unless the lead is cracked and lifitng. if it is grind the thecrack out till you hit solid metal lead or steel. if it looks good i would just ruff it up and plastic over it.

Like body filler, lead can deteriorate over time. If it is sound, leave it alone.

 agree

I left the lead on mine, just skimmed the low areas with some filler. If it is sound, why mess with it?

You should be careful when applying a bondo over lead. You may want to use a skim coat of metal to metal or duraglass. That will seal the lead and prevent moisture from getting under the bondo and starting rust which will eventually pop the bondo loose. Most fiberglass fillers are porous and will retain moisture if they get wet.

Fit the high spots with a file, A skin cot ober the lows. I have never seen filler peel off of the lead seams.
