THE CAR CAME WITH A 318 / 904 COMBO..GOING 400 / 727
MY PLAN WAS TO USE FACTORY TRANS CROSS MEMBER IN ORDER TO LOCATE THIS THING FRONT TO BACK
1ST - IS THERE A MOUNT AVAILABLE TO DROP A 727 FROM A 70' C-BODY INTO MY FACTORY DART CROSSMEMBER
2ND - IF SO, WOULD THIS BE A GOOD PLACE FOR THIS THING FRONT AND BACK ( PLANNING ON ALUMINUM RAD. , FAN TO BE DETERMINED, A/C AND POWER STEERING)
3DR - I'M LEANING TOWARD ELEPHANT EARS IN THE FRONT ( FACTORY K-FRAME AND STEERING LINKAGE..NOT SURE ON OIL PAN? ANY IDEA'S ) ANY MAJOR DOWNFALL ON MOUNTING TO THE FRAME VS. THE K-MEMBER

Mock up the trans to the block with your elephant ears bolted on and drop it onto the factory automatic mount . The weld your brackets for the ears on the frame. You`ll have a lot more room without the factory motor mounts. Chryco

Some things to consider..... With elephant ears, you will have to play around with things up front to get all your pulleys aligned. I've read that elephant ears occasionally give people grief with leaks at the water pump (where the ears are sandwiched between the pump and block). For a street application, conversion mounts from Schumacher might be easier. -Jay

REALLY, I WAS THINKING THAT FABBING THAT FABBING THAT SET UP WOULD BE A BREEZE. AND I JUST FIGURED THAT WITH THE FACTORY MOUNTS OUT OF THE WAY THAT THERE MIGHT BE A LITTLE EXTRA ROOM TO WORK DOWN THERE...WITH EXHAUST SHIFT LINKAGE ECT..

the exhaust and shift linkage are all behind the motor mounts. A schumaker kit is the way to go ...

THE DUE LOOK NICE. WHAT WOULD BE THE DOWNFALL OF THE MOTORPLATE, OR WHAT IS THE BENIFIT OF THE SCHUMAKER OVER THE PLATE

Minuses on using the plates:
1. Makes mounting accessories, such as alternator, power steering, etc more challenging. 2. Plates can allow engine to slam rearward on hard acceleration (slicks, low gear, racing application mostly when this occurs) 3. Access to timing cover, water pump housing removal, etc, requires holding the engine with a hoist or supporting it from beneath.

As was said before, the trans mounts in A bodies are all the same - slant six, small block, big block, 904, 727, 4 speed and it will locate your engine properly. One down side to solid elephant ear mounts is that a lot of vibration is transferred into the car - not a big deal on a race car, but can be annoying on a street car.
PS - please don't type with your caps lock on. It sounds like you are yelling at us!
Good luck

Ideally you should use a midplate and engine limiters with a motor plate or elephant ears.

really, i figured it would almost be easier...just line up the pully's and fab the brackets exactly where it needs to be...vs. hunting down the appropriate ones

Many have done the motor plates without a midplate. It seems to work out ok. I feel that there is alot of unsupported weight between the motor plate and the transmission mount. This is putting alot of stress on the bellhousing. The stock mounts are futher back on the engine changing the amount of stress on the bellhousing. I am trying to deside which way to go myself. I think engine limiters should be mandatory with a motor plate. Not alot of fore and aft strength or stiffness in that thin plate. I have never ran a motor plate, but I have reseached it ALOT!

If you are running a street car, use the schumaker kit. The elephant ears arent that bad for vibration. Unless your motor is way out of balance. The schumaker kit is simpler and sets the engine in a factory location, also like was stated the accessories just bolt right up. No machining the water pump housing or making brackets.
A mid plate wouldnt be nessesary on a street car though.
