Carb squirters?
« on: September 28, 2008, 02:06:12 PM »

The accelerator pump squirters on a Holley are numbered. Does the number represent the size of the hole.
Also some of the squirters that I have in my stock have little brass tubes extending from the squirter, what are the benifits of this, if any.
I am tunning my Holley 850 DP and need to adjust the squirters to remove a hesitation while cruising. I went from 31 to 35 on the primary side only and the hesitation is about 98% gone. Would like to try 32, 33, or 34 but don't have them. So I was thinking of drilling them out. If the numbers don't represent the hole size is there a chart to cross reference the hole size to the number.

a 31 pump shooter is actually .031", so if you have a REAL GOOD drill index set, you can go to .032, 033 or 034. As you found out Holley only sells certain sizes  (27,31,35) so you're on your own after that. The brass tube type is a high po version of the standard issue shooters. They are positioned better in the venturi.

It was happening just cruising in the city at about 2000 RPM.
I went from 31 primary to 35 primary and it is 98% gone. Now when I am cruising and stomp on the gas pedal the hesitation is gone, now I have another problem, the rear tires break loose and the back end of the car starts going side ways. !nanr I still need to change the secondary squirter to make it 100%.
