aftermarket steering coupling
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:02:56 PM »

I'm looking for a new coupling for my 1968 dart with manual steering. The original pot coupling is comming apart. What size is the shaft and how many splines? Is there an easy way to remove the old coupling? Thanks.

I don't know all the answers to your questions, but I recommend you call Bill. Contact info: https://www.reillymotorsports.com/contact.shtml

He can hook you up with a Flaming River joint and he knows what fits.

As for getting the old coupling off, check this out: http://www.fourbarrel.com/steeringcolumn.html

Of course, that assumes you got the coupling off the steering box, which can be a chore. It's just the way it looks - remove the roll pin, then pull the coupler off the steering box splines. The roll pin can put up a fight, though. Make sure you support the bottom if you use a drift punch and hammer.
