904 trans on an RB
« on: September 30, 2008, 01:10:18 PM »

Ive heard the 904 can be made to be a very solid, lightweight alternative to a 727 in some instances.

true or no?

if so, whats involved with hooking one to a BB?  adapter or new/reworked case?   the reason Im asking is I have a 904 that came with the Coronet.  its been "gone through" to be pretty heavy duty.  Ive been contemplating running a BB in place of the SB that was (once upon a time) there.  Just investigating what would have to happen in order to make those work together

good idea?
asking for trouble?
too expensive/PITA for the benefits?

Guys use 904 trannys because the internals are light weight ... they rebuild them alot, and use special clutches and are fully rollerized  throw money ... I would advise gainst it especially on the street.   A 904 that has been "gone through" will not live up to a BB for very long.
