900 watts will only make 7.5 amps of 120 volt power .... I doubt that is enough to run an air conditioner ... most air conditioners take 10 amps to run and up to to 15 amps to start ... I would say you will need a 2000 watt genny to run the A/C

NO! It will not run an AC unit. 900 watts will run something that only draws about 8 amps. You will need atleast a 3500 watt generator, maybe larger. Depending on the size of the AC unit.

I=P/E. 3500 watts divided by 120 volt equals 29.16 amps.

Look on the unit (A/C) it should tell you how many amps it will use. If its less than 7.5 amps , you are ok! At Home Depot we sell a 5000 btu window unit A/C and it only uses 4.8 amps! Your generator would power it!

Pinke, when I get to work tomorrow, I'll check some prices. 900 Watts is pretty light, You'll be running it pretty hard powering even a small ac unit.

Ehh, that's not much... what will it handle peak? The initial load of starting the motor/compressor on the AC unit is going to pull some juice and could give it problems.
A decent hair dryer pulls well over 1000 watts. A buddy of mine just got a 3500 for around 500 (if not less) shipped.
