Hey guys, just wondering what the benefits are of green bearings as opposed to tapered bearings? I know that they arent good for taking tight corners, and that tapered bearings can take all loads...so what is the advantage of green bearings? are they cheaper, stronger? what is it?

The green bearings are non adjustable, and I believe they have an integral seal, so they are a little easier to install. If I read the Moser website correctly factory style Timken tapered bearings are only $10.00 more per set. I would probably stick with the tapered bearings if your seals are in good shape, and that's all the difference in price. There was another post recently about the snap ring style retainer on the green bearings, and it didn't leave me with a very good feeling about them.

I believe mopar muscle did a tech article a few months back on why tapered are far superior and how to do make the swap with aftermarket axles, sice the splined contact area is a weak spot. They actually walked through the buildup pretty well.If you cant source the info i cantrack my copy down and let you know the month published.

Really, the only benefit to green bearings is that they are non-adjustable, which is important with alot of aftermarket disc brakes. However, it's not really a big deal unless you'll be road racing the car on a regular basis. The greens will take plenty of abuse in most cars.

Those who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those of us who are doing it.
