B body brakes on my A body
« on: October 02, 2008, 08:10:31 PM »

I've been asking around and just wanted to get some more opinions before I tear into anything or buy anything else I need. I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do the job, but figured I'd ask anyway.

I want to use the 11" drums from my 69 Road Runner to replace the 9" stock drums and upgrade to LBP on my 72 Scamp. I already have all the old brake stuff and spindles that came off the RR. I know I need to get the 73 and up A body UCA's and larger upper ball joints and everything should hopefully bolt right up. I will eventually be using an 8 1/4 rear with 10" drums. Will there be any issues with driving around with 11's up front and 9's in the back for a little while? Any issues with 69 B body spindles on a 72 A body? Any reasons this set up won't work?

No real issues, but why not go all the way to discs? You also might want to check parts availability for those brakes.

no problems, i drove 10k miles on 11 3/4 bad *** brakes up front and stocker 9 inch rears,

i have 11x3 vented drum to go on my back to when i get this new rear end in, i dont really think there is a need to step up to rear disk, unless its going to be a roadrace car, but if you have the money then go for it

Basically I wanted to use the drums because I already have them and the spindles just laying around. All I really need are the UCA's and ball joints and I'm done. It would be the cheapest and easiest way for me to upgrade to LBP.

The only issue I could see is brake proportioning. You may want to upgrade to an adjustable valve. If you just cruise around you shouldnt have any issues. If you drive the car hard autox, roadrace or just up some back roads you will benifit from the valve. Plus anything you change can be adjsuted and they are cheap.

I am running 69 Road Runner brakes on the back, and 69 Road Runner spindles in the front with 76 Cordoba discs mounted to the RR spindles. Works very well.
