I have a pump that is used in the diesel truck(pickups)applications to replace the stock lift pumps...that we will be using on Rickey's car. The original plan was to up the pressure on this pump when we do the EFI system but it wont deliver what we need. Anyway..the company that builds this pump said that they dont like to see anything smaller that 140um fuel filter(pre pump). The reason is that it creates too much drag on the pump. Can some one explain these numbers and also if there is an inline filter that will work?
Thanks Rick

Do you mean 140 micron ? the abbreviation for micron is MU not UM. If so most filters are rated by microns. 140 microns is 140 millionths of a meter To put it in perspective typical table salt is 70 microns .... so the pump you are looking at will handle 2 grains of salt with no damage, and the filter will stop 90% of particles 2 grains of salt and larger.

I work with the measurement everyday. It is µm...
A micrometre, American spelling: micrometer; symbol µm...commonly written as um...
He doesn't want your pump working too hard trying to suck and push fuel. Do a filter search on SummitRacing.Com and you will see alot of different options...

On virtually all the EFI systems that I sell and support I use Aeromotive in-line filters: Aeromotive # 12304 Inlet fuel filter, 100 micron, cleanable stainless steel element, 3/8 npt in/out Aeromotive # 12301 Outlet fuel filter, 10 micron, replaceable paper element, 3/8 NPT fittings These are good for up to 1000 HP.

consider using two filters, two suction lines going to a "Y" fitting just before the pump. it will make the pump much more efficent(spelling may not be correct) and take the load off too.
