Well,at 3:30 yesterday my boss called me and layed me off...FUCK!!! I took yesterday off to replace 4 ball joints in my truck, thinking I'll work a couple long days to make it up...but I don't have a job now! Man I don't know what I'm gonna do...I haven't been able to turn on the heat yet cuz I'm almost out of oil...it's only 56 degrees in my house! He told me he's lost a couple of jobs that he bid on,things are tight and then he says a bunch of reasons...WTF? We were in the middle of a big job in Boston...everybody else still works for him. I'm screwed!!

Frame to finnish carpentry...problem is I don't have my builders licence nor do I have the $ (about $700) to get it,I've been working for other people my whole life. I'm down to one vehicle between me and my wife which doesn't help. There isn't a ton of construction going on around here anymore.

Well, it's a safe bet that you could probably do handyman services, maybe?

I should be able to get some side work here and there, hopefully enough to keep me fed. This is kinda sink or swim, and I'm pretty buoyant.

Hey there.......sorry to hear about the lay off. The only observation I can make for you is "working for some one else is security....working for yourself is prosperity" and the other thought (I sincerely believe to be true) is that when one door closes, another opens. Watch . Best of luck. Daryl

Sorry to hear it.
If you want to make some decent money, head to the Gulf area. Well, CHECK ON THAT FIRST! Last I was down there, construction was still booming because of all the rebuilding, but that was a year and a half ago. Lots of guys from out-of-state were there. Lots of FEMA money. If things are really dried up in your area, and you have nothing holding you down, you could look into it. Just a thought.

Hey, A buddy of mine was in your same predicament. He started to look into the maintenance dept. at the college. It is a state job, so benefits are pretty good. His kids can go to school there tuition free. The pay is not too bad either. I don't know if there are any colleges around you, but the maintenance is pretty much "hand tool" type of repairs. He loves it.

Good idea! , I guess you are not going to find any illegals working for the governement! Also, try big corporations, everytime and exec in my comapany moves or get promoted, they get a new office. Good luck finding a job, its a tough time to lose one. BTW, I don't recommend moving to texas in your line of work. My buddy did that, he is now doing other forms of work, carpentry is all lowest bidder here, and when an illegal will work for $8 an hour cash, there is no hope of you getting paid $20.

Damn...Yeah this is definetly a bad time to be out of work.I'm almost out of oil and no money to fill it.I'm just about out of stuff to sell.Santa won't be stopping by here this year. I filed for unemployement on Monday,so I'm waiting to see what I'm going to be taking home for pay.I'm hoping with a little side work I can make it through the winter.I'm sure I'll make it,but it's gonna suck!
