Disc brakes-power or not??
« on: October 07, 2008, 11:14:10 PM »

Hi,I'm looking for some opinions on power brakes.I.m planning to put front disc brakes on my 70 Swinger(it has power drum now)+was wondering if power brakes would make that much of a difference once the 440 is in,or would manual discs do the work just fine? Thanks.

Personally, I like manual disc brakes. As long as everything is in good shape, they should do the job just fine.

No power brakes necessary on an a-body, discs or drums.

I only have a small block but I upgraded to manual disc and they work great. Big difference from the old drums.

Manual discs for 340, stops great as it accelerates.

Pretty much made the decision to go from manual drum to manual disk/drum on the 69 340 dart.   I've had mostly manual disk/drum cars....always wonderful when set up properly.  The power disk/drum on the Volare is nice, but alittle too touchy for me.  Its more difficult to modulate the brakes with them.

I will be doing four wheel disc manual. Haven't gotten the engine set yet but it looks as though headers and brake boosters would conflict.

68 dart/ 383.

Retrofitted front Manual Dic Brakes off of a 1973 Duster. Work great.

We also installed a new Ford Mustang Proportioning/Metering valve

Here's some good poop on these items:

Manual discs will do the job just fine.  My Dart will set your face into the dash if stab the brakes to quickly!
