how hard and what do i need to convert my power steering 1971 scamp to a manual steering?  ive heard that some people just pull on the steering shaft to compensate the shorter (power) column..do i need any coupler....and which steering boxes will fit my car??? thanks a lot NOW A PROUD MEMBER OF

you will need a manual steering box and a coupler extension, I think Bill R has them .... there is no way to pull on the column to make it longer

I had heard that you could lengthen the shaft by breaking the pins inside that hold the collapsable shaft together. At that point, you would need a coupler to mate the power shaft, to the manual box. Most manual boxes are direct fits, from most A,B,C, or E body cars.

You can collapse the column when going from manual to power, but there isn't enough length to extend it when going from power to manual.
